ARS HVAC Testimonial Project

You never quite know what to expect when you show up on set with a new client. I've had my fair share of bizarre jobs, but this one was anything but.

I had the privilege of collaborating with American Residential Services, a national network of plumbing, heating, and air conditioning businesses for homes and commercial properties. Right here in the Sacramento area, they launched a pilot program aimed at paying aspiring technicians to complete a 10-week training course that would prepare them for careers as HVAC technicians.

My task was to gather testimonials and showcase the class in action to inform potential candidates that this program was not only real but also a unique opportunity. One of the challenges we had to overcome was the skepticism surrounding the program. Some of the students admitted that they were initially wary and almost didn't apply because they thought the opportunity was too good to be true. This video would be used to dispel any reservations future candidates may have about the validity of the program.

Leaving this job left me with a sense of hope. In a world where news about the economy and the state of our country often paints a bleak picture of limited opportunities and corporate greed as the norm, this experience was a shining exception. During the interviews, I was nearly moved to the brink of tears as I heard one inspiring story after another from young men brimming with excitement, pride, and optimism about their future careers.

I was particularly pleased with the final video product. It showcased a wide range of my skills as a videographer and editor. The entire video was filmed and edited by me. I utilized a two-camera setup for the testimonials, recorded with an external audio device, and used my Ronin RSC-2 for steady and smooth shots of the students in the classroom.

The most challenging part was deciding which clips to include because the students had so many wonderful things to say about the program. It was easy to compile a highlight reel with all the footage I captured. I look forward to taking on more projects like this in the future as it has undoubtedly been a highlight of my year so far.
